"I am thankful for a lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning and gutters that need fixing because it means I have a home.... I am thankful for the piles of laundry and ironing because it means my loved ones are nearby." ~Nancie J. Carmody

Maniacs

After Zachary participated in TheRuggedManiac a few months back, he thought that it would be fun to organise a team of all of the young people that he cares about. He didn't get a very positive response from any of them, except his sister. In the others defense...while the race is fun, it is also difficult. Your endurance is pushed, your body gets beaten, it's cold and uncomfortable. I am sure that if the others thought that they were up to it, they would have participated.
So, my two chicks have been readying themselves for this competition over the past month. Kate started eating healthy and working out consistently and Zach kept up with his routine and was right beside Kate to encourage her. It made me happy to pull into our driveway at the end of the day and see the two of them piling into Zach's little green car to go to the gym together. I love that they are healthy and fit, but more than that...I love that they are buddies. Living home together at this time of their adult lives has made them very close and I pray given them a foundation that will keep them close all through their adult lives. It is a blessing for them and in turn a blessing for Jim and I as well.
Yesterday, we all ( Jim, Kate and Jeff, Zach and me) drove down to Brooklyn for the big event. It took place in a big x-airfield that is now a sports center. It was right on the water so not only were the temps chilly, it was windy as well. We were with them at the starting line and then waited for them at the finish. They promised each other that they would stick together and of course they did. It was exhilarating for me to watch them run the last stretch together, wet, tired...but laughing and happy! Congrats Zachary and Kate! Awesome accomplishment!

Numbers pinned on and ready to go!

The last obstacle. Kate climbed up first.

No hesitation...Zach was up and over very quickly.

Cold and happy they were hardly winded or tired.

We celebrated Kate's birthday last month with her favorite dinner (cheese enchiladas) and her favorite cake. Such a fun night!
